Planning Coaching Outfits for Brand Photoshoot

I always love my brand photoshoots with Dr. Carrie Lovelace Petr! She is an executive coach in higher education based in Lincoln. She also frequently facilitates retreats and workshops. She booked a brand photography Storytelling Session, which allowed us to collaborate prior to her photoshoot to plan the perfect session for her and Felix. As a part of her planning call, we were able to use her mood board and desired photoshoot aesthetic to select the backdrop and outfits for her brand photoshoot.

Carrie shared with me in her planning questionnaire that she wanted brand photos of her working that she could use across social media, her website, and in her marketing. With this in mind we knew that she would want a variety of backdrops and outfits for her brand photoshoot. After reviewing Carrie’s mood board we decided to go with a location that would provide a clean and minimalistic aesthetic. We used CommonSpace in Lincoln, Nebraska for Carrie’s previous brand photography session and wanted to use this location again because she felt really comfortable here! Personally, I love this natural light studio because it offers so much variety and flexibility. As a brand photographer, I value a space where I can create whatever look I want in order to bring my client’s vision to life. CommonSpace was the perfect location for Carrie’s coaching photoshoot because it allowed us to create working environments as well as sets to showcase moments of celebration!

Now when it comes to planning brand photoshoot outfits, it is about more than just the perfect look. We want to curate a photoshoot wardrobe that considers the entire shot. The planning call allows us to tie all of the pieces together: desired aesthetic, location, backdrops, props, and outfits. We were able to come up with 4 looks for Carrie’s brand shoot.

1. Business Casual with Office Setting

The goal of this look was to capture Carrie’s typical work day attire. We knew that we would pair this business casual outfit with a desk and office setting to capture her working. I brought in my bookshelf and Carrie brought in some decor and props from her office to make these photos look and feel like her office.

2. Bold Business Formal Dress with Light Backdrop

I knew we wanted to pair this bold red dress with a light backdrop so that Carrie would pop in these brand photos. We were able to get a variety of looks out of this outfit, from a day at the office to a formal headshot to incorporating some magic props. This look was definitely a show stopper!

3. Speaking and Coaching Outfit for Collaborative Photos

Since Carrie is a coach, part of getting working shots including brand photos of her actually coaching! This meant creating a backdrop showcasing her leading a workshop, bringing in her friend to assist as the audience, and creating moments for coaching and collaboration. Carrie opted for a classy teal dress for her outfit for this portion of the photoshoot.

4. Simple Black Outfit for Celebration Photos

In addition to working brand photos, we wanted to capture Carrie’s joy and fun light-hearted spirit with some celebration photos. We chose a simple black romper for this look because it was very versatile for the brand photos we wanted to get! This allowed us to easily incorporate disco balls, crowns, and even cake! During the planning call, Carrie shared that this romper was one of her faves and that she felt really confident and comfortable in it. Using pieces from your closet that you feel your BEST in is always a no-brainer!

Brand Photoshoot Outfit Accessories

Accessories are just as much a part of the overall look as the clothing, so we made sure to select pieces that would accent Carrie’s outfits for her brand photoshoot. She chose a chunky necklace to dress up her business casual attire, a diamond necklace and earring set to match her bold business formal aesthetic, a beautiful pearl necklace for her coaching outfit, and simple hoop earrings for her celebration shots.

But her most important accessory was her CHO, or Chief Happiness Officer. Felix, Carrie’s dog, is very much a part of her personal brand. You will oftentimes find him sitting in her lap during coaching calls and her clients know and love him! Prior to the photoshoot, we discussed different ways to incorporate him into the shots. It was important that we didn’t let Felix steal the show, as Carrie was the real star!
